Why should we care?
IS THE WATER IN THE MIDDLE EAST REALLY HARMING MY SKIN AND HAIR?
The water in the Middle East is not as clean as we think. In addition to chlorine, our water supply contains heavy metals (e.g., magnesium, calcium, copper, lead, arsenic) and other contaminants that are a result of human-led processes — such as pesticides that enter the water supply through farmland, chemical waste from factories, city sewage, or rusty old pipes. We created The Luméa Water Report to help educate people about the chemicals found in their shower water. Simply click the ticker bar at the top of this page, type in your zip code, and we’ll email you a water report for your very own municipality. The report is created via public data, and contains readings for over 99 contaminants that could be found in your shower water.
WHAT EXACTLY IS HAPPENING TO MY SKIN AND HAIR WITH CONTAMINATED WATER?
With our skin being our body's largest organ, when we shower, we absorb water like a sponge. So showering in contaminated water has major implications for your beauty routine, including premature aging, dry skin, acne, dandruff, psoriasis, damaged hair, just to name a few. Showering in clean water is the essential step in our daily routine for better skin, hair, and wellbeing.
I’VE HEARD ABOUT ‘HARD WATER’ AND ‘SOFT WATER’. WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE?
Hard water is water that contains a high quantity of dissolved minerals (like calcium and magnesium). Soft water, on the other hand, has been treated so that the only ion remaining is sodium. When rainwater falls, it is naturally soft. However, as water makes its way through the ground and into our waterways, it picks up minerals like chalk, lime, calcium, and magnesium, becoming hard water. Hard water is to blame for dishes with spots, dingy looking clothes, and residue and soap scum in bathrooms. Soap and shampoos are also less effective with hard water due to its reaction to the magnesium and calcium, which makes the lather not as rich and bubbly, leaving hair feeling sticky and dull.
WHAT SKIN TYPES BENEFIT THE MOST FROM USING LUMÉA?
Every skin type can benefit from using Luméa, but Luméa may be especially helpful for individuals experiencing premature aging, dry skin, acne, dandruff, psoriasis, or damaged hair. Showering in clean water is essential for better skin, hair, and wellbeing.
Hmm.. How does this work?
HOW DO YOU FILTER OUT THE CHEMICALS? IS THIS LIKE A BRITA?
Similar to a Brita, our Luméa Filter uses the pressure of your water to push water through our attachable water filter. When creating our filter, we’ve focused on the two best filter mediums for the conditions of a shower: hot water and high velocity.
WILL LUMÉA AFFECT MY SHOWER PRESSURE?
Luméa was designed and built to maximize the pressure coming from your pipes and will not reduce your existing pressure.
DO I NEED TO CHANGE OR REPLACE THE FILTER?
Yes! Luméa uses best-in-class filter technology. When researching and testing other shower filters, we realized their claims of a “six month lifespan” in reality turned out to be actually less than three, and chlorine reduction rates of 90%+ were only true for the first week. Luméa has built a filter that lasts 3 months.
HOW DID YOU TEST THAT THIS WORKS?
We’ve conducted third-party tests — those that are most reputable in the United States — to confirm that The Filtered Showerhead removes chlorine at over 85% for the lifespan of the filter, assuming multiple people shower at least once a day for 90 days using the same Luméa. This far exceeds the NSF177 certifications (aka the authority on water filtration) as their standard is 50% removal of chlorine.
IS IT EASY TO INSTALL Luméa?
HOW DOES INSTALL WORK?
Install? Easy-peasy.
FIRST STEP
Take off that old showerhead with a custom wrench, which is included with every Luméa Showerhead purchased.
SECOND STEP
Luméa comes preloaded with a filter so no need to install one. But to double-check it, unscrew the face and make sure the filter is in there.
ALMOST THERE
With the tape included, wrap the threaded part of the exposed pipe 2x and tear. Simply twist on Luméa until it’s snug. Take the wrench and give it a solid snug to make sure there are no leaks.
YOUR SHOWER, FINALLY POLLUTANT FREE
Enjoy clean water which we guarantee will improve your skin, hair, and overall wellness. No really, we guarantee it. If you don’t love Luméa over the next 60 days, we will refund your money.
SO I’M CONVINCED I NEED THIS, BUT CAN I DO IT BY MYSELF OR DO I NEED TO HIRE A PLUMBER?
No plumber necessary! Just follow this simple how-to guide and you’ll be able to install your Luméa showerhead in no time, but if you do need assistance or have any questions, just visit our contact page on the website
WILL THIS FIT ON ANY SHOWER?
Yes! The standard thread size for modern-day showerheads in the United States is 1/2-inch. As long as you have shower arm plumbing coming from your ceiling or your wall, you’ll be able to install your Luméa.
WHAT ELSE?
IS OUR SKIN REALLY OUR LARGEST ORGAN?
It sure is, which is why making sure it’s absorbing clean, chemical-free water is vital to your health and wellbeing.
IS THERE AN OPTIMAL TEMPERATURE TO SHOWER IN?
Most dermatologists recommend keeping the temperature at an average of 98°F to 101°F, but there are also significant benefits to cold showers for increased circulation... so we'll let you decide.
OK… SHOWERS. BUT WHAT ABOUT BATHS? OR WASHING MY FACE? I DO THAT IN THE SINK.
You bring up an excellent point! While our first launch is designed to transform your showerhead, we plan on tackling every faucet, eventually. Sign up for our newsletter at the bottom of this page to be the first to know!
I FEEL LIKE WE WASTE A TON OF WATER TAKING LONG SHOWERS. WHAT’S YOUR TAKE?
According to the EPA, the average shower lasts about eight minutes. With the average showerhead having a water flow of 2.1 gallons per minute, each shower uses more than 16 gallons of water! Across the United States, we use more than one trillion gallons of water each year just from showering. So, while the idea of showering in your uncontaminated, pure, new shower water for hours on end might seem appealing, it’s important to remember that every drop counts, so keep it quick and be mindful!... maybe set an alarm.
WHERE IS THE BEST, MOST CLEAN WATER IN THE WORLD?
Well, according to the BBC, the most "pristine" water in the world can be found in places such as Crater Lake in Oregon, Lake Baikal in Siberia, Lake Vostok in Antarctica, but we like to think... with the addition of The Luméa Filtered Showerhead, it might soon be found in your very own bathroom. :)
